Boy, how did I forget to mention Tyler Brûlé?

You'd have to be a long time reader of this blog to know my ongoing horror/fascination with the journalist and editor Tyler Brûlé. Like many others, I was introduced to Tyler through his "Fast Lane" column for the FT, a column that many old time FT readers remember fondly as a weekly journey through Japanese and Scandinavian luxury brands with a market in the hundreds and a general dismissal of just about everything else (I have no recollection of Tyler ever having a kind word for any American brand). Tyler left the FT to launch Monocle, a very good magazine, that combines news with Tyler's love of obscure luxury brands, but the back page just wasn't the same. Harry Eyre's weekly elegies to those parts of the 19th century that somehow managed to hold on was pared with competent, but hardly memorable, commentary from some of the other writers on the FT staff.

Well, sometimes prayers are answered. Two weeks ago, Tyler returned, and we're right back to dunks in the Baltic with his partner Mats, his ongoing drama of finding the perfect flat in Tokyo and his harping on about travel service that doesn't meet his expectations. God bless you, Tyler. I think I speak for a large cross section of FT Weekend readers when I say "Welcome Home." Expect the same shit we gave you last time, but know that we do it with a bit of envy.

And, yes Virginia, there is still a Kenny Muncaster (points to FT readers who get that joke)
